Rape City

It is with a heavy heart I start this post. I read the online version of the Times of India everyday. And  every day there is one bit of news which makes me sick invariably. Rapes. Yes, you heard me right - every day. Without fail. And they don't spare kids or aged women. How many of us know that our capital city has recorded a 33.5% of the country's urban child rapes? And that is just the official number! Read the TOI report here.

What is happening to our cultural values? What is the future of the girl-child? I was contemplating on these questions when I saw this article where the author says that crime can be cut down by increasing the birth rate of girls! Do you agree?

Our establishment is not interested in implementing many suggestions that have been made over many decades to improve our policing and rarely allow the forces to increase man power. The below requirement strength of the police forces are further depleted for VIP protection and escort / bundobust duties.

We need better policing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_windows_theory

But of course it is also essential that our total disregard for feminine welfare has to change and the surest way to achieve that is to prevent female foeticide and girl child murders.

Thank you Rummer for your comments and the link to the "broken windows theory" which was quite educative. I agree that better policing cuts crime as was seen recently in my locality.

The concern about the girl child cannot be overemphazised as I have two lovely daughters....and as an ordinary citizen I worry, like many others do...
